So Hoon and Hewitt are launching a coup. 

The thing about coups is, most of the time they don't work.  And when they don't work, they leave a lot of people with egg on their face.

It will be interesting to see who Charles Clarke - the instigator - wheels out over the next 24 hours.

But if he can't get two big Cabinet members to talk up his case, he will have failed.

And the extreme likelihood that he won't get Cabinet support, and the coup will therefore not work, makes you question the motives of those supporting it.
